The project Nordic Clean Energy Scenarios aims at identify technological solutions to a carbon neutral Nordic region and develop energy scenarios for the Nordic energy sector that will enable the Nordic prime ministers’ commitment of reaching carbon neutrality. The project is carried out between Marts 2020 and April 2021. NCES2020 brought together nine teams from four Nordic countries, with complementing modelling and analytical skills. The project team and the use of open access energy system models and data contributed to strengthening Nordic cooperation and expertise in energy modelling. The ambition was to avoid the modelling exercise becoming a black box that is only accessible for a small group of peers to assess progress in the Nordic countries towards national goals. The resulting Opens Source TIMES model (ONTIMES) has been developed and used for analysing GHG pathways for the Nordic GHG reduction.
Implementation date: Marts 2020 – April 2021.
Scope of delivery: reports, policy briefs, workshops and an energy modelling development.
