Updating and handing over the DK-BioRes model

Energy Modelling Lab is supporting the Danish Council on Climate Change, updating and handing over the DK-BioRes model, a flow based model developed a few years earlier that captures all Danish biomass resources from agriculture, forestry and aquaculture.

The updated model features several technologies for reducing carbon emissions and nitrification, and is available on GitHub.

Building lasting capacity at the Council

As part of the project, we are building the capacity of the Council’s staff so they can use the model themselves, including training on quality assurance of the scenarios produced. With the DK-BioRes model at hand, the Council can develop comprehensive scenarios of climate neutrality covering land use, yield and emissions from agriculture, aquaculture and forestry, integrating biomass use and consumer behaviour, enhancing its capacity to provide suggestions for cost effective climate policy solutions.

By the end of the project, the model is handed over to the Danish Council on Climate Change, with full ownership assured by the staff.

Outputs

An updated, flow based model of Danish biomass resources, generating scenarios of the impact of different strategies and technologies, such as manure acidification and air cleaning, on reducing carbon emissions.

Close collaboration with the Council’s staff throughout the update, including hands on training on running and quality assuring their own scenarios.

Full hand-over of the DK-BioRes model to the Danish Council on Climate Change, with staff trained and equipped to run and maintain it independently.
